New TIA Design of Meenyi Technology Demonstrated at 2022 OFC
At 2022 OFC, a paper submitted by Meenyi Technology on the design of 10 GB/s low-power and low-noise TIA chip based on 65nm CMOS process has been referenced at 2022 OFC because of its novel circuit architecture and excellent performance, and it will be publicized and demonstrated at the event. New TIA can work with low-cost 3.5 Gbps APD. Its sensitivity of -32.6dBm meets the requirements of 10G PON applications, providing a low-cost solution for current mass-produced XGPONs/XGSPONs.
At present, the access network enters an era of the fifth generation Gigabit ultra-broadband represented by 10G PON technology, and the demand for 10G PON Avalanche Photodiode (APD) and Trans-impedance Amplifier (TIA) has increased accordingly. The price of 10Gb/s APD chip is high due to its complex manufacturing process, which accounts for most of the cost of optical receiving system. How to use low-cost narrowband APD to reduce the cost of optical devices (TOCAN) has become the main development trend in the industry. However, low-cost and low-bandwidth APD can reduce the current injected into TIA significantly, and generate greater capacitive load at TIA input, both of which will result in the loss of power injected into TIA and reduce the sensitivity of receiver.
Meenyi Technology proposes a new TIA architecture based on physical characteristics of APD and the design principle of TIA. With low noise and ultra-high bandwidth, this design can compensate for the decline of TOCAN photoelectric bandwidth caused by low-cost APD in low-cost 65nm CMOS process, reducing the overall cost of optical receiver. Now, new TIA designed by Meenyi Technology has been certified and has received two national invention patents.
